GROUND FLOOR

The ground floor is where our main office is located.  This office serves as the main source of information for the Department.  Residents can enroll in a program, rent a meeting room, obtain a field permit, purchase a membership, “check in” for the day, or obtain answers to questions about what’s happening around town, programs, and upcoming events.  The ground floor also houses offices, meeting rooms, a game room, men’s and women’s locker rooms with sauna and showers.  Also located on the ground floor is our workout center which houses a full service workout facility

FIRST FLOOR

Our main attraction here is our gymnasium that houses many of our programs that we offer.  In our gym we offer programs such as basketball, floor hockey, dance instruction, aerobics, gymnastics, and special programs.

The first floor is also the focal point of many other activities.  Meeting rooms with a capacity of 65 people, a fully equipped kitchen, and a full service arts and crafts room house many of our programs, as well as community meetings.

PARKS AND ATHLETIC FIELDS

FIELD STATUS: Everything is OPEN

PARKS & ATHLETIC FIELDS

Norwood is experiencing an overwhelming number of requests for field space for many youth and adult sports, with many parks seeing an increase in the number of people, cars, and trash.  IN order to keep our children and parks safe, we ask that everyone visiting a Norwood park or field follow these guidelines:

· Pick up trash and dispose of properly.  Trash attracts bees and animals.

· Trash is picked up on Mondays and Fridays.  If barrels are full, please remove your trash from the site.  Some school sites do not have barrels due to the number of allergies to bees.

· Report any unsafe field conditions immediately to a league supervisor or to the Recreation Department.

· Park your vehicle in designated areas only.  If parking on the street is necessary, park in a manner that will allow emergency vehicles to access the fields and neighboring homes.  Parking in crosswalks and in front of hydrants is illegal and unsafe.  Never park on the grass!

FIELD PERMITS      icon 2013 field application       NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

All organized groups must have a permit to use a field.  Please contact Howard Weinstein at the Civic Center and fill out a field request form.  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

 Norwood Day  2013

icon NORWOOD DAY 2013 application

Mark you calendars September 7, 2013

9:30am-3:00pm

Enjoy Live local entertainment, clowns, games, prizes, crafters, food, sidewalk sales, kiddie rides, business groups, and town department displays!

Norwood Day Buttons will help support activities and allow for free food tasting, kiddie rides, trolleys, rock climbing and racing.  Cost of buttons before event are $3.00 each, ($4.00 day of event)

Parade starts at 9:30am at the Library, goes through town and ends at gazebo.

It seems that, every year, Norwood Day continues to grow in both attendance and a greater variety of activities for its residents.  This year we reached an estimated 16,000 people and provided a new Interactive Van- Games 2 Go.

The success of Norwood Day would not be possible without the continuous support from our business community who share our vision.  A big “Thank You” to the Town Square Diner (who, every year, generously donates a hearty breakfast to start us off), the Norwood Bank, Comcast, Chestnut Hill Realty, Ellis Nursing Home, Lustra Cleaners, Dedham Savings, Gillooly Funeral Home, Republic Plumbing, Eye Care Specialists, UTI, Jack Madden Ford, Norwood Cadillac, “Consider it Dunn”, T.G.I. Friday’s, Bertucci’s, Lewis’ Olivadi, Giorgio’s, Sky, Napper Tandy’s and the Feisty Greek

We would also like to thank the Norwood Town Departments who always help on Norwood Day:  Department of Public Works, Police Department, Fire Department, Light Department, School Department, Engineering Department, REACT, and the Recreation Department.

In addition, we would like to thank all those who helped make Norwood Day the great  day it has become:  Committee Members and Volunteers-Linda Berger, Dan Burns, Jack Chamberlain, Martha Colamaria, Bernie Cooper, Dolores Elias, Mike Lyons, Lee Kennedy,  Joe Greeley, Brian McDonough, Kevin McDonough, Rick Morison, Ernie Paciorkowski, Nicole Pelaggi, Paula Pelaggi, Linda Rau, Reggie Regan, Kevin Shaughnessy, Jack Taylor, Jean Taylor, Howard Weinstein, Eileen and Ron Woodworth, Jim Nassif, Pam Conroy, Mary and Mary Kate Taggart, Dorothy Prevoir, Joe Malinn, Joanne Gleason, Linda Reilly, Tom Lambert, the Freshmen Football Team who helped us to set up early in the morning, and the boys J.V. Soccer, who helped us to take everything down.

TO BE ANNOUNCED

ANNE T. LYDON VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The spirit of Norwood has always been its volunteers who come and share their time, labor, and finances to make Norwood a better place to call home, and enhance the quality of life for its residents.

No one epitomized volunteerism as Anne Lydon did.  She was the first to raise her hand and volunteer for so many groups, charities, and town activities.  It is with this thought in mind that the Norwood Day Committee will honor the Volunteer of the Year.

Anyone interested in nominating a Volunteer of the Year may do so by dropping off the nominee’s name and a paragraph bio of his/her services to Norwood at the Civic Center, or you can go on our website and also do the same (norwoodma.gov)
