Norwood Police Department is an accredited agency consisting of over sixty sworn officers. These officers are responsible for the safety of Norwood's 28,000 residents and visitors alike.  We work to secure the community by patrolling an area of just over 10 square miles by means of three shifts over twenty four hours, three hundred and sixty five days a year. Our officers take pride in the responsibility given to them by the town of Norwood  and are grateful to serve this community.  Welcome to our official website.

Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission arrived on June 14th, 2022 for a three day assessment examining various aspects of the Norwood Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations and facilities.

Verification by the Assessment Team that the Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain state Accreditation -- a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession.

The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards as well as 125 optional standards.  In order to achieve accreditation status, the Norwood Police Department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 60% of the optional standards.

Achieving Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.  Anyone interested in learning more about this program is invited to call Chief Brooks.
