Salary:             Grade S13, FY20 Hiring Range* $79,299.19-$83,473.62/annually + excellent benefits

General Summary:*
The purpose of this position is to perform electrical engineering functions for the Norwood Municipal Light Department, and to work in conjunction with other department personnel in constructing and maintaining an electric distribution and broadband system. Works with Billing Department staff and Electrical Engineers to maintain computer network and billing system. Performs professional electrical engineer work related to electrical utilities in conformance with local, state, and federal regulations and codes. Performs related work as required and directed.   
 
Duties may include:

  • Plans and designs distribution circuits and electric service installations.
  • Supervisory on-call responsibility, including 24X7 availability, emergency response, after hours scheduled work, and direct supervision of line crews, Substation Operators and Meter Department Staff.
  • Creates AutoCAD/Bluebeam drawings in conjunction with existing and future expansions and upgrades of the distribution system.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and design of the departmental GIS database, maintenance and design of the electric SCADA system, maintenance and design of the electric Engineering Analysis model, and design of the town fiber system.
  • Designs and supervises complex meter installations; performs monthly review of industrial customer billing information. Develops and implements load shedding plan. Responsible for all control wiring at substations.
  • Develops and implements an Energy Conservation and Load Management Program.
  • Prepares RFP’s for engineering and consulting services; prepares bid documents for materials and equipment and/or for large projects.
  • Writes and approves high and medium voltage switching orders, and performing and supervising high voltage switching throughout the system, including all substations.
  • Designs and supervises upgrades and expansions to the electric distribution system.
 
Minimum entrance requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; one to three years of responsible related experience; municipal experience helpful; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must live within 20 minutes commuting distance to Norwood. Valid Class D Massachusetts driving license or equivalent. Must possess demonstrated skills with computer hardware systems and various engineering software programs.
  • Must be able to properly use personal safety equipment necessary for the operation of a high voltage distribution system. Knowledge of electric substations and control circuitry. Understanding of electric metering and billing practices.  Knowledge of electric distribution practices, including but not limited to design, application, troubleshooting, and regulatory.
