Traffic Safety

One of the most important functions performed by the police department is the effort to ensure the safety of children walking to school. Through the years this task has fallen upon the patrol officer as part of his many duties. After world War II the ensuing population boom and construction of many more schools, the task became too much for the police alone. Squads of traffic supervisors were formed in the early fifties and remain today. They are the backbone of the school crossing safety effort. This page is a salute to the men and women who, as police officers and traffic supervisors have safely crossed generations of Norwood school children.
