Historical documents held by local organizations are listed
and described in this Database. They include municipal
departments, schools, churches, the hospital and the
historical society. The Database is intended to be a guide
for research. It was created as the result of a 2003 grant
from the Massachusetts Historical Records Advisory Board
and Secretary of State William Galvin. The Library invited
municipal departments, religious, social and civic
organizations to participate. An archivist was hired to visit
the participating organizations. At each location records
were surveyed and a description recorded. A printed guide
to the participating organizations and the documents
surveyed is available in the Library Reference Department.
This Database is a complete catalog of the items which the
archivist saw at each location. For information about how to
examine the actual documents please call each organization
directly.
