Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I'm eligible for the program?
To be eligible for this subsidized transportation program you must be a Norwood resident at least 60 years old or a disabled person regardless of age. Those with disabilities must submit a note from their doctor stating that they are in need of this service.
How do I apply for this program?
If you are eligible for this program, please come to the Senior Center, with proof of residency (i.e. light bill, driver's license, RMV ID) to register. You will be given an identification card that you will need to provide when purchasing Transfare tickets.
What is the value of the tickets?
- Transfare books are $5 each
- Each book contains 5 tickets
- Each ticket is worth $3
- Participants can purchase a maximum of 5 books per month
- Tickets cannot be refunded
- The Town does not reimburse for lost or unused tickets
Where can I travel using these tickets?
The Transfare tickets can be used with any taxi in Norwood. The coupons are to be used within the Norwood town limits; however, they can also be used to travel to Roche Brothers in Westwood and the Walpole Mall.
How do I pay using the Transfare tickets?
The tickets are used like cash. The driver should accept as many tickets that are needed to pay for the fare and you should be given your change in cash if the value of the ticket exceeds the cost of the fare.
You are responsible for paying for anything over the value of the tickets. Transfare tickets cannot be used to tip the taxi driver.
Can I bring another rider with me when I use the tickets?
You are allowed to bring another rider with you as long as the other rider travels from the same location and destination. You will only be charged one fare.
