Most Town Offices will be Closed to the Public December 28 - January 18

Norwood - Beginning Monday, December 28, we will be closing Town Hall to the public for a period of three weeks to comply with Governor Baker’s recent orders, with a tentative reopening date of January 19 based on COVID-19 numbers.

Consistent with most communities in Massachusetts, Norwood experienced a significant spike in COVID-19 numbers after Thanksgiving, and we are, unfortunately, expecting the same with the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Closing Town Hall and other Town offices to the public will allow us to have more employees work remotely during this period, which should reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Although most Town offices will be closed, Town staff in all departments will be available via phone and email. Here is more information about each Town building:

Town Hall – Town Hall will be closed, but Town staff will be available by phone and email. Residents are welcome and encouraged to contact the Town Hall switchboard at 781-762-1240.

Council on Aging (Senior Center- Effective Monday, December 28th all indoor programming will pause until Tuesday, January 19th. Grab and go lunch and the bus will continue to operate. Staff will be present in the building and available via email or phone at 781-762-1201.

Civic Center – The Civic Center will remain open to the public. Residents may still contact the Civic Center at 781-762-0466. 

Public Safety Building – No change in operations or hours.

Morrill Memorial Library – The Library will be closed to the public. There will be no patrons allowed in the building, so notary and passport services will not  be available. Curbside pickups will continue. Residents may still contact the Library at 781-769-0200.

John J. Carroll Administration Building (DPW) – The DPW administration building will be closed to the public. DPW services will continue as normal. Residents are welcome and encouraged to call the DPW switchboard at 781-762-1413.

Airport – Norwood Memorial Airport Administration Building will be closed to the public, but Airport staff will be available by phone and email. Residents may still contact the Airport at 781-255-5615. The airport itself will remain open.

Norwood Light Broadband (NLB) – The NLB building will be closed to the public. NLB services will resume as normal. Residents are welcome and encouraged to call the NLB switchboard at 781-948-1150.

Service Impact

The trash and recycling schedule will not be affected by these closures. However, the trash and recycling schedule has been affected by the holidays. Please see the Town website for more information.

Between December 28 and January 18, residents and business owners will NOT be permitted to pay taxes, utility fees, recreation-related fees, and parking tickets in person. Taxes, utility fees, recreation-related fees, and parking tickets may be paid online or checks may be dropped off at Town Hall using one of the two secure drop boxes.

Police, Fire, DPW, electric, phone, and broadband services will not be impacted by the closure of some Town offices.
