Donations are needed! but...please bring only books and paperbacks in good condition published within the last 5 years, recent best sellers, classic titles in excellent condition and materials about Norwood.

Sorry, we cannot use books in worn, torn or poor condition, textbooks, computer manuals, condensed books, magazines or books with outdated information. Please recycle these items in the town's curbside bins.

The Friends of the Morrill Memorial Library is a non-profit group whose purpose is to promote public interest in the library by supporting and expanding library programming and services. The group's varied fundraising activities have provided funds for children's entertainment, dramatic and musical performances, craft workshops and author nights. They help support the library's literacy volunteer program and have supplied discussion group books, assistive technology and other library materials.

Click here for a friend's membership application. Yearly membership dues are $5 for a senior citizen, $10 for an individual and $15 per family/household. Silver and Gold Memberships are available for $25.00 and $50.00

One of the ways that the Friends support the Morrill Memorial Library
is by funding programs. In 2010 the Friends provided funding for events such as these:

  • Mike Tougias, local author of The Finest Hours and several other books on February
    11, 2010. (Sponsored in conjunction with the Norwood Cultural Council.)
  • A Higgins Armory presentation in the children’s rooms on February 16.
  • The Audrey Hepburn Film Fest*, a series of four films in March 2010 with a
    question/answer presentation by Bridgewater State University professor, Michele
    Wakin.
  • Spring Author Night! Margot Livesey, author of The House on Fortune Street on
    April 8.
  • Dr. Sally Snowman, the 70th keeper of Boston Light on April 15.
  • Jeffrey Cramer, Curator of the Thoreau Institute in Lincoln Massachusetts, Private
    Partner, Public Life: Interviews with Poets and Their Spouses on April 27, 2010.
  • Judy Bernstein, Here Comes the American Wedding! On May 13, 2010.
  • Marguerite Krupp, Exploring the Boston Harbor Islands on May 27 and June 16.
  • Maureen Taylor, The Last Muster: Images of the Revolutionary War Generation on
    June 24.
  • Recyle Ranger, a children’s room program presented on June 24. (Sponsored in
    conjunction with the Norwood Cultural Council.)
  • The Summer Sizzlers of the 60’s*, a series of four films on July 8, 15, 22 and 29.
  • Ecology of Sound, a children’s room presentation on July 20.
  • Tide Pool Alive, a children’s room program presented by the New England
    Aquarium on August 10.
  • Cindy Rudolph, Suminagashi Marbling Workshop on August 11.
  • Margot Sullivan and Beth Goldman present Fireside Chat in February and Beach
    Reads! In July.
  • Margot Sullivan, leader of the library’s First Thursdays Book Discussion Group,
    including refreshments.

In addition, the Friends provided:

  • 12 curtains for the Simoni Room in order that we may show movies during the day and on summer evenings.
  • The annual movie license from Movie Licensing USA so that the library may legally
    show films to the public.
  • The annual passes the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
  • Summer Reading prizes to hundreds of children at the Morrill Memorial Library.

  • A quarterly newsletter is mailed to members of the Friends.

The Friends continue to purchase and provide:

  • Roland Digital Piano
  • Funds for library material: books, recorded books, videos, DVDs
