Status:             Full Time Regular, Exempt
Hours:             40 hours/week
Salary:            FY21 Grade C11, $1,332.32 – $1,638.55 /weekly

 

General Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide skilled technical and administrative duties in supporting the operations of the Computer Department.  Incumbent provides first-level help-desk support to town’s employees; manages purchasing, inventory and computer-related supplies; and all other related work as required. Works under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Information Technology.  This position is defined as an mostly on-site position.

Other duties as provided by the official position description:

  • Performs a variety of responsible duties of an technical and administrative nature requiring the exercise of judgment to carry out assignments independently and analyze facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems; requires a working knowledge of departmental operations. Complete working knowledge of current information technology including PC hardware and software applications; understanding of LAN/WAN concepts and server administration. Familiarity with active directory, email systems, antivirus software, backup software and related procedures.
  • Provides help desk support to all (Town and School) employees; establishes and maintains user and e-mail accounts on the network; maintains and troubleshoots the Local Area Network including maintenance of the PDC, user accounts, security, virus protection, data integrity.
  • Manages purchasing of all needed computer supplies and tools. Maintains inventory for all town-owned computers; responsible for delivery of all computer-related supplies and town equipment serial numbers, locations, and warranty information.
  • Installs and upgrades system software and ensures daily backup on all workstations and servers.
  • Reports to Assistant Director of IT on a daily basis to discuss technology issues and specific problems.
  • Provides direct technical support to all Town Departments.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting and task-oriented skills required
  • Provides similar or related work as required.

Minimum entrance requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in MIS or Computer Science in a related field; or five years of proven experience. Experience assisting users remotely and onsite is required. If less than five years’ experience, then certificates in various server software would be required.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Must have the ability to evaluate, analyze and resolve complex computer problems and make logical, reasonable decisions for implementation; to communicate effectively and instruct all levels of users within the Town; to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to train others in the use of PCs;; to modify, program and publish HTML documents to the Internet to support the Town’s website; and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must have skills in managing all computer operations as mentioned above
