William G. Brooks III is the Chief of the Norwood, Massachusetts Police Department. During his 39-year career, he has also served as a patrolman, sergeant, detective sergeant and deputy chief. He has been a police academy instructor for over thirty years and serves as Director of the NORPAC Task Force, a multi-agency unit comprised of detectives from 15 Norfolk County police departments.

Chief Brooks is a member of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s Standing Committee on Eyewitness Identification and served as a member of a committee at the National Academy of Sciences examining eyewitness identification research. He presents nationally on behalf of the Innocence Project and was the 2012 recipient of the Innocence Network’s Champion of Justice Award.

Chief Brooks is President of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association and is a member of the executive committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. In 2015, he received the IACP Civil Rights Award for Individual Achievement. He holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
