Fire Prevention Office

The Norwood Fire Department, Fire Prevention Bureau is headed by Lieutenant John Cody. The primary duties and responsibilities are Code enforcement and Code compliance with the Fire Prevention Regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (527 CMR 1:00), Chapter 148 of the General Laws and the issuance of permits.

All residential property upon it's sale or transfer in ownership must be inspected to insure compliance with Chapther 148, sections 26F and 26F 1/2 (smoke detectors/carbon monoxide alarms).

In addition some of the daily duties include the inspection of Hotels, Lodging Houses, Nursing Homes, public buildings and Elderly Housing Complexes.

Over the course of the year fire evacuation drills are conducted at the elementary schools, middle school and Senior High School.
