For Drone Operators
The use of drones, or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), has increased dramatically in recent years.
For those authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate drones within five miles of Norwood Airport, federal regulations require that you contact us in advance.
The public phone number for Norwood's air traffic control tower is 781-769-1845. Our tower is manned seven days a week.**
The FAA web site offers great information on its regulations pertaining to drones, plus, how to register your drone, become a drone pilot, etc. Click here.
Another helpful resource is: KnowBeforeYouFly.org. Click here. This web site operates in partnership with the FAA. One important feature, under the Fly Responsibly header, is the U.S. air space map. Here, you can plot your location in relation to the Norwood Airport and its controlled airspace. If your location falls within the yellow shaded area, we'll need to know well in advance of your drone operation. Again, our air traffic control tower can be reached at 781-769-1845.
[**Staffing hours in Norwood's air traffic control tower are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., from November 1 thru March 31; and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., from April 1 thru October 31.]
